Some techniques about removing negative thought patterns
I want to briefly talk about some tips to remove negative thought patterns on this post. If you practice one or more of the following tips regularly, ideally on a daily basis, then you can have a good mental diet.
The 1st technique: Label your past negative, traumatic experiences in non-related short terms (e.g. the color of white, the word banana, or the word red…), and train your mind to associate those experiences with the short terms through repetition, until you no longer think of the actual events.
The 2nd technique: Whenever you think of negative events and/or have self-doubts, you purposely tell your mind “stop“ immediately. And you do this whenever you catch yourself thinking negatively. You can either mentally say stop or say the word stop loudly, depending on where you are. And once again, you do this through repetition.
The 3rd technique: Whenever you catch yourself with negative self-image or immerself yourself into past negative situations too much, you counter the negative thought with an exact oppositve positive thought! For example, if you doubt your public speaking ability, you will be like: Actually, I am quite good at public speaking. People are always so immersed by my public speaking skill! Say it in a way that sounds natural to you.
Speaking from my experience, I usually do a combination of option 2 and 3. That means, mentally, I say stop this whenever I catch myself thinking negatively, and counter the negativity with a totally opposite positive thinking through repetition.
The point is not to repress our feelings or negative emotions. The key is through persistence/repetition, we aim to change our dominat thinking pattern! And by removing negative way of thinking again and again, and everyday, we purposely reprogram our subconscious minds until our affirmations become the reality!
If you become my one-on-one coaching client, I will share more about effective ways to countering negative thinking pattern, and design customized affirmations and homework practices that help you replace the toxic, old thought pattern with positive, loving, and new pattern! ;).
